Supply Teachers

Conference opportunity!

We are looking for a volunteer to represent us at the annual NUT Supply Teachers' Conference in London on 25th June 2016.

The conference is a great opportunity to network with other supply teachers, and find out about developments in supply teaching campaigns. Lunch is provided, and reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed by Somerset NUT.

For more details, see  https://www.teachers.org.uk/members-reps/supply-teachers, or contact us on secretary@somerset.nut.org.uk or secretary1@somerset.nut.org.uk, quoting your membership number.

Supply teaching in Somerset

Somerset is a great place for supply work, not least because teachers can register with the local authority, enabling them to work direct with schools.

However, if you are a supply teacher, or considering supply, it may be difficult to know where to go for help, advice and support. It is easy to become isolated. Accessing CPD, or finding out about the latest developments in education and the curriculum may seem more difficult when you are not part of a school staff team.

The National Union of Teachers can help. There is a good deal of information and advice for supply teachers on the national NUT website: http://www.teachers.org.uk/supply

Closer to home, the Somerset Association of the NUT would like to set up a local supply teachers' network where members can find out more about current campaigns and CPD opportunities and share information and support. Please contact the Somerset Association to register your interest.

Training

NUT training courses are particularly valuable to supply teachers, who may not have access to CPD through their employment.

There is an extensive and varied selection of courses available, including courses tailored specifically for supply teachers.

Have a look at what's available on the national NUT website:
